Estonia: Storm predicted to raise sea level above critical at Pirita

Starting from Friday evening, winds will strengthen to storm force in Estonia, breaking trees and potentially disrupting ferry services, and the sea level at Pirita, Tallinn, will exceed the critical threshold, the Environment Agency said.

South and southeasterly winds, and southwesterly winds on the islands, will strengthen on Friday night, reaching 12-18 meters per second, and 21 meters per second in gusts, peaking at 25 meters per second on the coast. Rainfall will be intense and there will be a risk of thunderstorms.

After midnight, the wind will turn west and northwest in Western Estonia, while wind speeds will continue to rise on the islands and the sea coast. The rainfall will be intense, there will be thunderstorm.

On Saturday, the wind will turn northwest with gusts reaching up to 23 meters per second inland and up to 30 meters per second on the coast.

Storm winds and heavy rain with thunderstorms will cause trees to break. The risk of power outages is high. There is a high likelihood that the strong winds will disrupt ferry traffic.

Sea levels will rise 110-130 centimeters above the average and exceed the critical threshold of 100 centimeters in the Pirita area of ​​Tallinn.
