According to the ferry operator Kihnu Veeteed, ferry trips between Estonia’s large western islands of Saaremaa and Hiiumaa are taking longer than usual due to the presence of sea ice.
The ferry Soela, operating on the Soru-Triigi line, may face journey times prolonged by up to 30 minutes in response to challenging ice conditions.
Data from the Environment Agency indicates that sea ice thickness between Saaremaa and Hiiumaa, as well as between Hiiumaa and the mainland, measures between 10 to 15 centimeters.
