The prosecutor’s office has fined an Uzbek citizen 7,000 euros for giving a 50-euro bribe to a customs officer to “drink tea”, LETA has found out.
According to the indictment, the person drove a truck at the Terehova border crossing, where a customs checkpoint officer started to carry out a physical search of the car.
During the search, the customs officer found 240 undeclared cigarettes without excise stamps hidden from customs in the cab of the vehicle.
In order not to remove the cigarettes found during the check and not to be taxed for them, the accused gave the officer EUR 50, saying “davai, I’d rather pay you … no need for tax … you can go and have tea with this”.
The person was detained and spent the New Year in a temporary detention center.
The accused person fully admitted the extent and legal qualification of the offence and pleaded guilty.
