Nauseda continues to top Delfi/Spinter presidential opinion poll in Lithuania

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda retained his position at the top of the latest presidential opinion poll published by the Delfi online news site on Friday.

Some 25.8 percent of respondents polled by Spinter Tyrimai in December said they would vote for the incumbent head of state if the presidential election were held the coming weekend, up from 22.5 percent who said so in November.

This is Nauseda’s highest presidential approval rating since October 2022.

The poll shows Ignas Vegele, a lawyer who will run as an independent, as Nauseda’s closest contestant, with support rising to 12.8 percent in December, from 7.9 percent in November.

Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, the Homeland Union-Lithuanian Christian Democrats’ presidential candidate, came in third with 10.4 percent, slightly up from 9.1 percent in the previous poll.

Further down the list was MEP Vilija Blinkeviciute, leader of the opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party, with 6.6 percent, down from 7.1 percent in November.

Some 11.3 percent of respondents said they would vote for a candidate not included in the list, 7.2 percent said they would not go to the polls, and 16.6 percent were undecided.

Spinter Tyrimai polled 1,012 people aged between December 15 and 23. The results of the poll have an error margin of 3.1 percent.
