Eurostat: Rent, housing prices in Estonia have tripled since 2010

According to Eurostat, both rent and housing prices in Estonia have more than tripled between 2010 and the third quarter of 2023, which is also the highest indicator in the European Union.

Between 2010 and the third quarter of 2023, house prices increased by 48 percent and rents by 22 percent in the EU.

When comparing the third quarter of 2023 with 2010, house prices increased more than rents in 18 out of the 27 EU countries.

Over this period, house prices more than tripled in Estonia, rising by 210 percent, and more than doubled in Hungary, up 185 percent, Lithuania, up 158 percent, Latvia, up 141 percent, Austria, up 123 percent, the Czech Republic, up 122 percent, and Luxembourg, up 107 percent. Decreases were observed in Greece, down by 14 percent, Italy, down 8 percent, and Cyprus, down 2 percent.

Rents increased in 26 EU countries with the highest rises in Estonia, up 218 percent, Lithuania, up 170 percent, and Ireland, up 100 percent. The only decrease in rent prices was recorded in Greece, down 20 percent.

In the third quarter of 2023, both house prices and rents in the EU increased by 0.8 percent compared with the second quarter of 2023. Compared with the third quarter of 2022, house prices in the EU decreased by 1 percent, while rents increased by 3 percent.
