New Unity and National Alliance lead the party ratings ahead of European Parliament elections

Ahead of the European Parliament (EP) elections in early summer, the leaders in the party ratings are the New Unity and the National Alliance, but overall support for the political forces is very fragmented.

According to the results of the SKDS poll conducted in February on behalf of the Latvian Television, 10.2 percent of voters surveyed were ready to vote for the New Unity in February, while 10 percent were ready to vote for the National Alliance.

Further down the list are Harmony with 6.3 percent support, For Latvia’s Development – 5.8 percent, Progressives – 5.4 percent, For Stability – 4.7 percent, the United List and Latvia First – 4.3 percent each, the Union of Greens and Farmers – 2.9 percent, Sovereign Power – 2.7 percent, the New Conservative Party – 1.9 percent, New Latvians and the Centre Party – 1.4 percent each,  People. Land. State. – 0.4 percent, Movement For and People’s Power – 0.3 percent each.

Taking into account only those respondents who had decided who to vote for at the time of the poll, support for the New Unity would reach 17.9 percent, and for the National Alliance – 16.5 percent.

In the poll, 39.9 percent said they would definitely take part in the EP elections, 28.8 percent said it was likely they would take part, and the rest said they would rather not take part or had not decided yet. However, past experience shows that significantly fewer voters turn out for the EP elections.

The EP elections in Latvia will take place in early June. 16 lists of candidates will be competing for EP seats.
