Scammers once again defraud people out of thousands of euros in Estonia

The East Prefecture of the Estonian Police and Border Guard Board are investigating cases that once again saw people scammed out of thousands of euros by fraudsters.

On May 2, a 65-year-old woman turned to the police after getting a phone call from a man claiming to be a police officer and requesting the woman to send money via an Omniva parcel machine. The scam caused damages amounting to 4,700 euros.

On May 3, criminal proceedings were launched after a 77-year-old man received a call from a woman pretending to be a bank employee, who convinced him to withdraw money from his bank account and hand it over. The scam caused damages to the tune of 6,900 euros.
