Lithuanian troops to leave for NATO mission in Iraq

Members of the Lithuanian Armed Forces’ Redeployable Communications and Information Systems Module are leaving for a NATO mission in Iraq on July 14.

During the four-month mission, the troops will provide communications support to ensure uninterrupted command and control in the area of operations, the army said on Thursday.

The military operation in Baghdad has been taking place since 2018. Its aim is to train instructors, teachers, leaders and improve the performance of the Iraqi army and other state security institutions.

“Highly experienced advisors from NATO and its partner countries are working with the Iraqi army and government to help build a safer and more stable Iraq. The mission is expected to build a lasting partnership with an important partner in the Middle East,” the army said.
