The wholesale price of electricity in Lithuania rose by 3 percent to 96 euros per MWh over the past week following the disconnection of a nuclear power plant reactor in Finland and a drop in solar power generation.
In Latvia, the average price on the Nord Pool exchange was the same as in Lithuania on September 9-15, while it reached 89 euros in Estonia, Litgrid, Lithuania’s state-owned power transmission system operator, said on Monday.
“Due to the Olkiluoto 2 nuclear power plant reactor shutdown in Finland and lower generation from solar power plants, the electricity price of went back to the normal level for our region,” Aiste Krasauskiene, head of market development at Litgrid, said in a statement.
Last Monday, high wind and solar generation in the Baltic states led to low prices in Scandinavia, she said.
“Average daily prices in Lithuania and Latvia were 5 euros per MWh, while hourly prices did not exceed 30 euros per MWh even during peak hours,” Krasauskiene said.
Electricity consumption in Lithuania rose 2 percent to 224 GWh last week. Local power plants generated 137 GWh of electricity, 7 percent less than in the previous week.
43 percent of electricity for the country’s needs was imported, up by 15 percent week-on-week.
