Apple set to buy Lithuanian image editing firm

Tech giant Apple has announced its readiness to purchase Pixelmator, which is an image editing app developed by brothers Aidas and Saulius Dailide in Lithuania, the Lithuanian public broadcaster LRT has reported.

“We’ve some important news to share today: The Pixelmator team is planning to join Apple,” the company declared in a statement. “It’s crazy what a small group of dedicated people have been able to achieve over the past few years in far-off Vilnius. Now we’ll have a chance to reach an even wider audience and have an even greater impact on the lives of creative people all around the world.”

The acquisition of Pixelmator is yet subject to regulatory approval, the company added.  The deal will not result in material changes to Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator for iOS and Photomator apps.

The value of the deal and other details about it remain undisclosed.

The Lithuanian firm has won several awards from Apple, including the 2023 App Store Aware for tis Photomator app.

In 2023, Pixelmator reported net profits of EUR 423,000 on revenues of EUR 1.99 million.

That same year, Apple posted EUR 391.04 billion in revenues and a staff of around 161,000 people.
