The Civil Aviation Agency (CAA) is looking into a system error that caused oxygen mask compartments to open on an airBaltic flight from Helsinki to Riga last week, according to information published by the agency on X (formerly Twitter).
The CAA said it had received a safety report from airBaltic stating that the mask compartment opened when the aircraft was at an altitude of almost two kilometers.
“The event is currently under review,” the CAA said in a statement.
Finnish media outlet Ilta-Sanomat reported that last Friday, March 29, oxygen masks dropped down in front of the passengers shortly after the Helsinki-bound airBaltic aircraft took off from Riga Airport.
As reported, airBaltic posted a EUR 33.652 million profit for 2023, recovering from a loss incurred a year before, while the group’s audited turnover grew 33.5 percent year-on-year to EUR 667.982 million.
airBaltic is a joint stock company that was established in 1995. Its primary shareholder is the Latvian state, which holds 97.97 percent of the stock, while the rest of the shareholders hold 2.03 percent.
