Google has removed 201 blocked Websites of EU-sanctioned Russian TV programmes from its search engine, the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission (LRTC) said on Tuesday.
The agency added that Google made the decision in response to a request from the watchdog.
“This means that if a user tries to access a blocked Website by entering its address into Google’s search engine, the site will not appear in the search results,” the LRTC declared in a news release.
The LRTC also said that this is not the first time that Google has acted in response to a request from the agency on removing Websites from its search engine. Previous requests related to Websites that were engaging in copyright infringements.
The watchdog decided on December 18, 2024, to block Websites which provide access to Russian TV programmes that are covered by EU sanctions.
