As of July 1, Duo Media Networks’ TV channels Kanal 2, Duo 4, Duo 5 and Kanal 7 are available on free-to-air television, allowing all viewers across Estonia to watch the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics free of charge, regardless of their location or whether they have a pay-TV package.
Jüri Pihel, chairman of the board of Duo Media Networks, said the Olympic Games are an event that unites people all over the world. With the channels’ move to free-to-air, the key sporting event will be visible everywhere in Estonia and free of charge.
“It is a great pleasure for us to bring this exceptional spectacle to all the people of Estonia. Returning to free-to-air television means that everyone will have the opportunity to experience the greatest achievements and moments of the sporting world, whether in the city, in one’s summer home or in the countryside,” Pihel added.
Kristo Kaasan, director of technology and IT at the transmission service provider Levira, said that approximately 207,000 people watch TV over free-to-air in Estonia.
“The Olympics is a truly big event in the TV world, and as the free-to-air signal provider, Levira is pleased to partner with Duo Media Networks to ensure that the exciting competitions reach as many people as possible this summer,” he said.
The Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, which begin on July 26, will be broadcast on Kanal 2, Duo 5, and the Russian-language Kanal 7. In addition to live broadcasts of sports events from Paris, viewers will also be treated to a series of live shows called “Olümpiastuudio” from a Tallinn studio throughout the entire Olympic period.
During the Olympics, Kanal 2’s popular weekday TV series will be shown on Duo 4, which also temporarily went free-to-air.
