The Saeima today sent for committee review government approved draft amendments to the Road Traffic Law introducing a requirement for foreign motorists to declare vehicles that are registered in third countries for use in road traffic in Latvia, LETA was told at the Transport Ministry.
According to the draft law, the driver of a vehicle registered in a country other than the European Union or the European Economic Area or Switzerland will be fined between EUR 55 and EUR 140 for using an undeclared vehicle in road traffic.
The draft legislation also provide that before the driver starts using a vehicle registered in a third country, it has to be declared, indicating the period during which the vehicle will be used in road traffic in Latvia, as well as the make and model of the vehicle, the country of registration, the name and surname of the owner/holder, etc.
The vehicles can be declared electronically using the e-services provided by the Road Traffic Safety Directorate (CSDD).
