Each and every person is important, and only by joining together can we build a better future for Latvia, Prime Minister Evika Silina declared in her Independence Day address before Parliament and to the nation.
Today, November 18, marks the 106th anniversary of Latvia’s declaration of independence in 1918.
“As we celebrate Latvia’s independence, we also celebrate our perseverance,” Ms Silina said. “With perseverance, we bravely fought for our country against all odds. We have persevered and worked together to make Latvia safe and prosperous.”
The prime minister went on to say that Latvia is made up of her people, and that has been true today, was true yesterday and will be true tomorrow. “We are proud of everyone who represents Latvia, and we rejoice at their achievements in art, sports and technology, which are also changing the world,” Silina said.
Prime Minister Silina acknowledged that people can have different views about how to build the country further, but there are values which unite all Latvians – the Latvian language, their own country and their freedom as foundations which have been laid for the development of Latvia.
“Therefore, let us also remember in our everyday lives that each and every person is important,” the prime minister concluded. “Only together, can we build a better future for Latvia.”
