Lithuanians see Blinkeviciute, Skvernelis as prime minister – Baltijos Tyrimai/LRT poll

Lithuanians most often see Vilija Blinkeviciute, leader of the opposition Lithuanian Social Democratic Party (LSDP), and Saulius Skvernelis, leader of the Democratic Union “For Lithuania”, in the position of prime minister, according to a public opinion poll conducted by Baltijos Tyrimai and published by the national broadcaster LRT on Monday.

Asked which of these politicians they would see as prime minister after the parliamentary elections due in October, 15.9 percent of respondents mentioned Blinkeviciute and another 15.9 percent chose Skvernelis.

MEP Blinkeviciute is leading the LSDP’s list of candidates in the forthcoming Seimas election but the politician nonetheless keeps mum on whether she will return to national politics if the party wins the general election.

Remigijus Zemaitaitis, chairman of the Dawn of the Nemunas (Nemuno Ausra) party, ranked third in the poll with 12.3 percent, incumbent Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte, a Conservative, was fourth with 12 percent, and Sirvintos District Mayor Zivile Pinskuviene was fifth with 10 percent.

Some 17.3 percent of respondents had no opinion on this issue.

Baltijos Tyrimai polled 1,005 adults in Lithuania between June 21 and July 7. The results of the survey, commissioned by LRT, have an error margin of up to 3.1 percent.
