Hanno Matto, member of the supervisory board of the North Estonia Medical Center and head of the State Elder August Rei Foundation, is of the opinion that the section of Pikk Street in front of the Russian embassy in Tallinn’s Old Town could be named after Alexei Navalny.
“The least we could do in Tallinn, besides offering condolences, is to rename the section of street in front of the embassy of the Russian Federation in memory of the murdered Alexei Navalny,” Matto wrote on social media, adding that the renaming of the 20-meter section of the street in front of the building at 19 Pikk Street would not change the historical role of the street.
“Upon the renaming of the street section, Pikk Street will remain in its place, and only the section in front of the embassy of the Russian Federation would be renamed. The latter will presumably result in the fact that every time mail arrives at the Russian embassy, it reads ‘1 Alexei Navalny’. The Russian ambassador and all embassy employees will have to write Alexei Navalny on the address line of their business cards and addressed documents,” he added.
On Friday, Russia’s prison service announced that the country’s best-known opposition figure Alexei Navalny died at the age of 47 in a penal colony in the Yamalo-Nenets region.
