Migration authority has ordered 62 Russian citizens to leave Latvia

The Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs (PMLP) has so far issued 62 deportation orders to Russian citizens who have not complied with the requirements of the amended Immigration Law and have not submitted any documents to apply for a residence permit so they can stay in Latvia, the migration authority informed LETA.

The number of departures and departure orders changes on a daily basis. By August 18, the Office of Citizenship and Migration Affairs had issued 62 departure orders. Of these, 17 have been executed and two have been cancelled.

Nine decisions on forced expulsion have also been taken, three of which have been executed.

As reported, the PMLP has requested a total of 1,016 Russian citizens to explain the reasons why they have not complied with the requirements of the amendments to the Immigration Law and submitted documents to apply for a residence permit to live in the country, as well as to provide information on the planned date of departure if these Russian citizens no longer have grounds to apply for a residence permit.

If the person has not left within 30 days after receipt of the departure order, a decision on forced expulsion is taken, which is executed by the State Border Guard.

Under the Immigration Law, permanent residence permits issued to Russian citizens expired in September 2023. To reside in Latvia, they had to apply for the status of permanent resident of the European Union, but to obtain it they had to submit proof of a minimum level of knowledge of the national language and the availability of financial resources to the PMLP.
