Plans are being drawn up to construct Riga Stages, a multifunctional film production facility, in the Spilve neighbourhood of Riga. This was reported to LETA by Ilze Sāmīte, a representative of the Latvian Association of Film Service Producers.
Latvian Economics Minister Viktors Valainis, Riga Mayor Vilnis Kirsis, Culture Minister Agnese Lace and Jānis Kalējs, a board member of the Film Service Producers Association, plan to sign a memorandum of understanding on November 19 aimed at developing the new multimedia infrastructure services centre.
The concept for Riga Stages involves a multifunctional filming pavilion, offering indoor places where that can be done. The three-hectare complex in Spilve will include several studious, an underwater filming pool, outdoor filming areas, auxiliary facilities, warehouses, offices and car parking.
Sāmīte says that 53 film products were competed in Latvia between 2017 and 2023, with total funding of around EUR 55 million.
The representative of the Latvian Film Service Producers Association added that a business plan has been developed for the film production facility, and three possible funding models for the project have been considered.
