New director appointed at Latvian Investment and Development Agency

Latvian Economy Minister Viktors Valainis has appointed Ieva Jagere as the new director of the Latvian Investment and Development Agency (LIAA), the State Chancellery informed the LETA News Agency.

Jagere is a finance and investment expert with more than 15 years of experience in corporate finance. She has managed major investment attraction transactions. Jagere previously worked at the Altum development finance institutions, and she is a managing partner at Callidus Capital, which is a financial and investment advisory firm. Ieva Jagere is also an independent member of the Indexo Internal Audit Committee.

Jagere told the news media on Wednesday that her objectives ta the LIAA will include significantly increasing foreign investment and to preserve the interest of existing ones. She will also focus on export promotion by providing support to entrepreneurs, as well as by digitalising LIAA services and streamlining internal processes.

Valainis noted that the reorganisation of the LIAA took around four years, but it is now basically finished.

“Some 30 out of 300 employee will lose their jobs,” the minister said. “The rest will have to decide whether they will accept new responsibilities. If not, we will look for new hires.”

Valainis added that the LIAA will reduce the number of internal departments from 17 to nine and that resources will be more focused on investment and expert work. “Around 64 employees will work on investments, and every big investment project will have its own investment manager,” the minister said.

There will also be more staffers working on exports: “This will be a completely new structure which is highly focused and targeted. There will e new job contacts and clear areas of responsibility.”

The position of LIAA director has stood vacant since September 2023, when the previous director, Kaspars Rožkalns, left for a job in the private sector.
