Manufacturing, transport and agricultural trade companies were among Lithuania’s largest exporters last year, the Verslo Zinios news website reported on Friday.
The list of major exporters, compiled by Vz.lt based on 2023 VAT declarations filed with the State Tax Inspectorate, is topped by Orlen Lietuva, which mainly exported to the Baltic states and Poland, and also increased its exports to Ukraine.
The oil refining and importing company’s sales to Ukraine surged by almost 69 percent last year to 624,000 tons, and sales to Poland jumped by 52.6 percent to 688,000 tons. It exported more than 2 million tons to Estonia and Latvia. The company’s total exports fell by 12 percent in 2023.
At number two on the list is Thermo Fisher Scientific Baltics. The Vilnius-based biotechnology company posted a 42 percent decline in total exports, with its key export destination being North America (447.9 million euros), followed by Europe (283.3 million euros) and Asia (81.6 million euros).
Girteka Europe West, controlled by Lithuania’s transport, freight and logistics group Girteka Group, was the third-largest exporter last year, with Germany, the Netherlands and Italy being the key markets for its service exports. The company’s overall exports rose by 20 percent, which could be due to the group’s restructuring.
Also linked to the Girteka Group is the 10th-ranked Everest (former Girteka Logistics), whose exports plunged by 72 percent.
Linas Agro, a leading exporter of Lithuanian and Latvian grain, is at number four on the list. The company, which is part of Akola Group, last year posted a 43 percent drop in exports, with Nigeria, Spain and Germany being its largest markets.
It is followed at number five by Agrorodeo, which exports grain to 55 countries, mainly to Nigeria, Portugal and Latvia. Its exports fell by 20.5 percent last year.
Agrokoncerno Grudai, which is part of Ramunas Karbauskis’ Agrokoncernas Group, is ranked sixth, with its total exports growing by 1.9 percent and South Africa, Nigeria and Germany being its key export markets.
Coming in at number seven is the nitrogen fertilizer manufacturer Achema, whose exports slumped down by 52.5 percent. Its export markets included France, Poland, Germany, the UK, Benelux and Scandinavia, Ukraine, South America, Australia, and African countries.
The fish products trading company Viciunai ir Ko emerged as the eight-largest exporter last year, with its exports rising by 5.7 percent and Italy, Germany and France being the key markets.
