Petition demanding PM Kaja Kallas’ resignation signed by 30,000

An appeal demanding the resignation of Estonian Prime Minister Kaja Kallas, initiated by the opposition Center Party and signed by nearly 30,000 people, will on Tuesday be handed to Riigikogu speaker Lauri Hussar.

The Center Party said in a press release that the collection of signatures was initiated due to growing dissatisfaction in society with the decisions of the government led by the Reform Party and also with what is happening in the economy.

“Estonian families are getting impoverished, companies are going bankrupt and unemployment is rising,” the party said. Center said it doesn’t think it is right that at a time when the government should come to the aid of the people, the prime minister is focusing on tax increases and spending cuts.

The Riigikogu is obliged to discuss a collective petition that has been signed by at least 1,000 Estonian citizens.

The chairman of the Center Party, Mihhail Kolvart, the party’s secretary general Anneli Ott, and MPs will deliver the petition and the lists of signatures to the speaker of the Riigikogu, Lauri Hussar, at 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday.
