The Polish oil group Orlen is thinking about whether to submit a new bid in the relaunched tender on the development of a second offshore wind farm in Lithuania. The tender was launched last week, and Orlen is assessing the financial benefits that could come from investments in the project, according to the CEO of Orlen Lietuva, Zbigniew Paszkowicz.
The group has not yet made a final decision on whether to bid for the 700 MW farm project that has a preliminary value of EUR 3.13 billion, Paszkowicz told the BNS News Agency on Wednesday.
“This is a business-oriented situation, and so we are engaging in calculations about the financial results of our investment,” the CEO said. “This is a significant level of funding, and we must consider the proposal carefully. We’ll be reviewing the possibility in detail.”
The Polish group’s CEO, Ireneusz Fafara, told BNS in Vilnius in September that the group was considering taking part in the tender.
“Our strategy remains unchanged,” Paszkowicz says. “We see this as a huge opportunity, but the final decision will depend on details, rules and conditions. From the business perspective, we must make all of the calculations in relation to the project.”
Experts and market participants saw Orlen as a potential bidder when the initial tender was launched at the beginning of 2024, but the tender failed after just one bidder – Ignitis Group from Lithuania, registered for it.
