Riga City Council today approved speed and parking restrictions for shared electric kick scooters in the city.
The first speed and parking restrictions for electric kick scooters in Riga will be introduced in May.
This will give ride-sharing companies enough time to prepare for the changes and for the municipality to mark the areas where parking electric kick scooters will be allowed.
The new requirements will be first introduced in the Old Town, where the maximum speed of electric kick scooters will be limited to 20 kilometers per hour and they will have to be parked in specially marked areas.
From June, this area will be extended to Elizabetes Street, and further if necessary.
The new rules are hoped to improve traffic safety for all road users.
The new speed and parking zones for shared electric kick scooters will be published on the Riga municipal porta Geo Riga in the Traffic and Mobility section.
