Sales of eco-friendly cars significantly increased – electric cars in up by 179 percent and hybrid cars grew by an 90 percent in November

Vehicle statistics by the Estonian Transport Administration show that the first registration of new passenger cars in November increased 27 percent compared to the same month last year, with hybrid cars in particular making a significant leap as their first registrations grew by an impressive 90 percent.

In November 2022, a total of 396 new hybrid vehicles were purchased in Estonia, whereas in November this year, this number jumped to 752 vehicles.

In 2023, nearly 8,000 new hybrid vehicles have been registered in total. Comparing the first 11 months of the year with the previous year, it is evident that first registration volumes for new gasoline, diesel, and gas cars are declining. The only increase has been observed in the first registrations of new hybrid and electric cars.

The Transport Administration’s statistics for October had already indicated a growth in the number of new car registrations, especially in the hybrid and electric car categories.

Electric cars saw the biggest increase in November, with first-time registrations up by 179 percent, although the volumes for electric cars are still relatively small, with just 131 vehicles registered during the month.

Hybrid car sales volumes continued to grow at a significantly faster pace in November, and this trend is likely to continue into December.

According to the Transport Administration’s vehicle statistics, Toyota has consistently been the most popular car brand among new purchases in Estonia for the last five years.
