The Smart-ID service can now be used in Belgium, which is the sixth country where the identification service created by SK ID Solutions is available.
According to SK ID Solutions, Belgians are already acquainted with digital authentication at banks, e-shops or government websites such as Tax-on-Web. In Belgium, the company partnered with Trust1team, a provider of identification services to banks, government, and health organizations across Europe. Together with SK ID Solutions, Trust1team will also develop an offer for digital wallets, in line with European regulations, the company said.
“The expansion of Smart-ID to Belgium is part of our goal to increase the security and convenience of digital services in the European Union. Launching the service in Belgium is an important step not only for us, but also for all Estonian and Baltic companies that want to offer their services in the heart of Europe. With the standardized and cross-border Smart-ID, companies here can now easily and securely expand their services both to Belgium and throughout Europe,” Piruza Harutjunjan, head of business services at SK ID Solutions, said.
Harutjunjan emphasized that Smart-ID works in Belgium on exactly the same principle and in the same way as in Estonia and therefore its integration and deployment is very quick and easy.
SK ID Solutions opened the Smart-ID service in 2017. In 2021, the Smart-ID solution was introduced in Iceland and in 2022 in India. In 2023, Smart-ID was used by 3.3 million people, who made more than a billion transactions with it.
