Staff from Transport Administration inspecting foreign ships in Estonian ports

From Sept. 1 to Nov. 30, ship inspectors from the Estonian Transport Administration will check the requirements related to maritime working conditions on foreign-flagged ships arriving in Estonian ports as part of the annual concentrated inspection campaign (CIC) carried out in the 27 countries that have joined the Paris Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

The Paris MoU, of which Estonia is a member since 2005, is a document by which 27 countries agree to implement a port state control system. Each year, the Paris MoU prepares CIC questionnaires that are used as additional bases for checks during routine inspections.

The focus of this year’s CIC is on requirements related to maritime working conditions. In particular, employment contracts and the payment of wages to seafarers are checked.

Estonia is on the Paris MOU white list, which demonstrates the high level of maritime safety of the ships flying the Estonian flag, the commitment of shipowners to improve it and the successful work of the Transport Administration to ensure that vessels comply with all international and national requirements.
