TalTech signs cooperation agreement with tech co Jio

Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) has signed a cooperation agreement with one of the world’s leading technology companies, Jio Platforms Limited.

Jio, the India-based technology company, focuses on innovations in the fields of 4G and 5G networks as well as various data processing solutions.

Gert Jervan, dean of TalTech’s School of Information Technologies, said that the university is an academic leader in the telecommunications field in Estonia and a trainer of new top specialists.

“The memorandum of understanding with Jio opens up new scientific challenges for us and broadens students’ learning opportunities. It is extremely exciting to bring an additional technological partner into our ecosystem, with whom we can develop new capabilities for researching future communication technologies,” Jervan said.

Aayush Bhatnagar, senior vice president of Jio Platforms Limited, added that this engagement represents a significant step forward in the company’s commitment to advancing telecommunications technology, particularly in the realm of 5G, 5G Advanced and 6G.

“Jio is the world’s third-largest telecommunications company, and the close cooperation between Estonia and the Indian parent company has been ongoing for over six years,” said Taavi Kotka, CEO of Jio Research Center.

He noted that while this collaboration was previously focused mainly on developing technical solutions necessary for the functioning of a digital society, it now includes an academic direction through cooperation with top European universities, including TalTech.

“This provides an opportunity to jointly contribute to the analysis and development of new technologies,” Kotka added.

Jio Platforms Limited, a subsidiary of Reliance Industries Limited, has built a world class, all-IP, data strong, future proof network with 4G LTE and 5G technologies. It is the only network conceived as a Mobile Video Network from the ground up. It is future-ready and can be easily upgraded to support even more data, as technologies advance to 6G and beyond.

Jio has brought transformational changes in the Indian digital services space to enable the vision of Digital India for 1.4 billion Indians and propel India into global leadership in the digital economy. Reliance Industries has set up a research unit in Estonia known as Jio Research Center. Jio Research Center proposes to engage in the activity of software development and provide consultancy for existing and future technology initiatives pursued by the company and its subsidiaries.

The School of Information Technology at Tallinn University of Technology trains specialists at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels in information and communication technology. Internationally recognized research and development activities, along with collaboration with companies, provide the foundation for high-quality, research-based education.
