This year’s Tartu winter tourism promotion campaign hopes to invite people who can enjoy the Christmas season in town and in the surrounding region. The aim is to invite people from Estonia, Latvia and Finland to explore the region’s diverse winter activities.
“It is very important to reach out to Estonian and Latvian visitors,” says Annika Ojasaar, director of tourism for the local government in Tartu. “While Tartu has seen a significant increase in the number of foreign visitors this year, the number of Latvians and Estonians staying in Tartu has been a bit lower.”
The campaign’s messages focus on Christmas emotions created in and around Tartu, including indoor and outdoor activities for families, groups of friends and loved ones who wish to spend several days in the Tartu region over the holiday season. Previous campaigns have shown that Tartu is an attractive Christmas holiday destination in foreign markets, Ojasaar added.
The campaign is being promoted on social and traditional media outlets in Estonia, Finland and Latvia. Tartu is also collaborating with social media influences in Estonia and Finland, a key message being that Tartu is just a 45-minute flight from Helsinki. The Finnish campaign was launched last week, while activities targeting Estonia and Latvia followed at the beginning of this week.
