Saeima today adopted in the final reading amendments which will ban the sale of tobacco products, herbal smoking products, electronic smoking devices and refill tanks to persons under 20 years of age from 2025.
The amendments were made to the Law on the Circulation of Tobacco Products, Tobacco Substitutes, Herbal Smoking Products, Electronic Smoking Devices and Their Liquids.
At the same time, there will be no ban for shop assistants between the ages of 18 to 20 to sell tobacco products to persons above the age of 20.
The law also expands restrictions on the use of tobacco in public places, on marketing and advertising, and on sponsorship and packaging of tobacco products, substitute products, electronic smoking devices and their refills.
