Ukraine and Finland sign agreement on healthcare sector cooperation

Finland and Ukraine signed an agreement on bilateral cooperation in the healthcare sector in Helsinki.

“Cooperation between Ukraine and Finland in the healthcare sector is very important. The Ukrainian Minister of Health Viktor Liashko and I visited the New Children’s Hospital in Helsinki today and paved the way for future expert cooperation. Finland also has a lot to learn from Ukraine, such as how to keep the healthcare sector functioning during a crisis,” says Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso.

The cooperation agreement was signed by Minister of Health Viktor Liashko on behalf of Ukraine and by Minister of Social Affairs and Health Kaisa Juuso on behalf of Finland. The prime ministers of both countries also attended the signing ceremony.

“Ukraine and Finland continue to strengthen their partnership relations. Today, we officially signed a technical agreement on cooperation in the healthcare sector, as part of the security agreement concluded on April 3, 2024, during the meeting between the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the President of Finland, Alexander Stubb. The unity of democratic countries around the restoration of a just peace in Ukraine is the key to a peaceful and secure future for the entire civilized world. Each security agreement signed, and its subsequent implementation, is a step towards this,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Health, Viktor Liashko.

“Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Finland has been actively helping our country in general and the healthcare system. Today, we once again reaffirmed that Finland’s position remains unwavering in supporting Ukraine in its fight against Russian military aggression and in restoring the world order based on international law.” said Minister Liashko.

Now that the agreement has been signed, concrete preparations for cooperation in the healthcare sector can begin. Other Nordic and Baltic countries have concluded similar agreements with Ukraine.
