University of Tartu, Cybernetica to train knowledge transfer doctoral students

The University of Tartu and Estonian IT company Cybernetica have signed an agreement to train knowledge transfer doctoral students, aiming to find research-based solutions for IT development challenges.

This fall, three doctoral students began their research at Cybernetica under the agreement. Their projects focus on addressing legal issues related to data usage, digitally verifying the locations of events, people, and objects, and enhancing the security of privacy-preserving artificial intelligence. The students are mentored by experienced Cybernetica researchers known for bridging scientific outcomes with practical applications, along with academic supervisors from the university’s School of Law and Institute of Computer Science.

The knowledge transfer doctoral program is a collaborative initiative that enables businesses and organizations to work alongside universities to create new knowledge and upgrade the skillsets of employees. Cybernetica emphasizes research and development in information security, e-governance, cryptography, artificial intelligence, and related societal impacts.

The Estonian IT company has a longstanding partnership with the University of Tartu, including a master’s scholarship program, doctoral student supervision, and extensive IT research cooperation. Both institutions are founding members of the Estonian Center of Excellence in Artificial Intelligence. The newly signed framework agreement facilitates the creation of doctoral positions at the university and junior researcher roles at Cybernetica, fostering cooperation throughout the doctoral studies.
