4 Percent initiative reps to hand over 50,000 signatures to Lithuanian PM

Representatives of the 4 Percent initiative will on Wednesday hand over to Prime Minister Ingrida Simonyte a petition with 50,000 signatures, which calls on politicians to agree as soon as possible on allocating 4 percent of the country’s GDP to defense.

“More than 50,000 signatures of Lithuanian citizens will be presented to the prime minister during the meeting, and the meeting will discuss ways speed up the collection of 4 percent of GDP for defense,” a 4 Percent representative who wanted to remain anonymous told BNS on Tuesday.

They said the meeting would be attended by Mantas Mikuckas, the initiative’s board chairman and a co-founder and board member of Unicorns Lithuania, as well as board members, including Unicorns Lithuania board member Arnas Stuopelis, Andrius Romanovskis, the head of the Lithuanian Business Confederation, Dovile Burgienė, a board member of the Lithuanian Business Confederation, Vidmantas Janulevicius, the head of the Confederation of Lithuanian Industrialists.

Simonyte has previously said the 4 Percent initiative did not identify possible sources of funding, adding that “the state has nothing else but taxpayers’ money”.
