Latitude59 brought a record-breaking 4,000 participants from more than 60 countries to Tallinn in May of this year, and now it is expanding with its first satellite event in Singapore.
The CEO of Latitude59 is Liisi Org, and she says that this is the most international, impactful and diverse startup and technology conference in the Baltic States and Nordic countries, providing a global platform for startups, investors and other builders of the startup ecosystem around the world. The satellite event in Singapore will bring Estonian and Singaporean startup ecosystems together and introduce them to a global audience.
“In Singapore we see ourselves as a bridge between Estonia’s highly digitised and successful startup environment and Singapore’s rapidly growing tech and innovation sectors,” Org said.
Singapore’s startup ecosystem is a leader in Asia, and there is much interest among businesspeople in Estonia about the success story and about a chance for collaboration between the two sides. Estonia hopes to have 500 deep tech companies by 2023, while Singapore already boasts of 1,200 such companies right now, she added.
“Latitude59 Global Mixer: Estonian Tech Meets Singapore” will be held on October 29 as an exclusive side event at the annual SWITCH conference.
“Estonia is a small country with just 1.3 million people, and our goal is to make it bigger by bringing together startup communities from around the world,” says the Latitude59 CEO. “Singapore is a very logical place for this. It is also a small market, and we would like to learn more about its success story so as to strengthen cross-border co-operation. This is crucial for small countries such as Singapore and Estonia.”
Latitude59 is emerging as an international platform which connects and boosts local initiatives and helps them to expand. Last year the first satellite event was in Nairobi, Kenya. In late November, a Latitude59 team is planning to return to Africa, where some 2,000 people are expected to attend the Latitude59 Kenya edition on November 28.
Latitude59’s 12th edition was in Tallinn in May of this year, bringing together more than 3,500 people, including more than 900 representatives of startups, as well as 20 national delegations. Nearly 600 investors were on hand with a total managed portfolio volume of at least EUR 30 billion. 195 speakers, 40% of them women, appeared on Latitude59’s stages. There were participants from more than 60 countries worldwide.
“Latitude59 Global Mixer: Estonian Tech Meets Singapore” is an event which is being organised in partnership with the Estonian Embassy in Singapore, the Estonian Business and Innovation Agency, and the SWITCH conference. Co-funding has been received from Next Generation EU.
