E-system outage halts truck traffic on Lithuanian-Kaliningrad border – Customs

As Russian media reports that Lithuania is not allowing any trucks to cross the border with Kaliningrad, the spokeswoman for Lithuania’s Customs says the e-document system crashed for more than half a day, which prevented some vehicles from entering Lithuania.

“The reason for this information was that there was a glitch in the customs information systems from 6.30 p.m. last night until 10 a.m. today. Those in transit who used the electronic declaration system only had to stop and wait. Paper declarations were accepted,” Irmina Frolova-Milasiene told BNS, adding that once the system was restored, trucks were allowed to pass through on Thursday as normal.

“They have been let through since 10 a.m. when the system was restored,” she said.

According to the Russian publication Kommersant, the Russian Federal Customs Service reported Lithuania did not allow trucks from Russia to enter without any explanation from 11 p.m. on March 20 until 10 a.m. on March 21, leading to a line of 140 trucks at the border.

According to the publication, representatives of the Kaliningrad region later reported that the truck line was due to a large-scale malfunction of the Lithuanian customs information systems.
