Estonia announces preliminary round for European Enterprise Promotion Awards competition

The Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications has announced a competition for recognizing promoters of entrepreneurship, which also serves as the Estonian preliminary round for the European Enterprise Awards competition.

Public, private, and non-profit organizations that have improved conditions for entrepreneurial development in any region of Estonia or the entire country for at least one and a half years are invited to participate. Organizations that have actively promoted entrepreneurship and wish to showcase their initiatives that have been implemented or have lasted at least 15 months, are welcome to participate in the competition. Up to two winners will be selected to advance to the European-wide competition European Enterprise Promotion Awards.

“We want it to be easy to be an entrepreneur in Estonia,” Minister of Economic Affairs and Information Technology Tiit Riisalo said. “Many organizations, both at the local and national levels, work to foster entrepreneurship, ensure a favorable business environment, and make future entrepreneurship sustainable and responsible. Initiatives that contribute to this deserve recognition.”

Projects that promote entrepreneurship and the entrepreneurial environment are invited to participate in six categories — promoting the entrepreneurial spirit; investing in skills; supporting the digital transition; improving the business environment and supporting the internationalization of companies; supporting the sustainable transition; and developing responsible and inclusive entrepreneurship.

Welcome to apply are government and local government agencies along with their subdivisions, entrepreneurship support organizations, education and youth organizations, and all other institutions, foundations, and non-profit organizations that have contributed to the development of the entrepreneurial environment. Initiatives from the private and third sectors involving cooperation with the public sector are also invited to participate.

Winners will be recognized at an awards ceremony and are also invited to the European Enterprise Promotion Awards ceremony in Hungary in November. Their initiatives will also be featured on the European Enterprise Awards website.

The European Commission organizes the European Enterprise Promotion Awards competition to identify and recognize the best initiatives aimed at promoting entrepreneurship.

This year marks the 18th iteration of the competition. In previous years, several projects that develop entrepreneurship, such as the entrepreneurship competition “Ajujaht,” the entrepreneurship and leadership program for young girls Superheroes, the e-residency program, startup idea accelerator Garage48, sTARTUp Day business festival, and Solaride, have been recognized. Last year, the competition was won by the Narva Creative Incubator’s visual multimedia center Objekt and the Tallinn Science Park Tehnopol’s health cluster project.
