Estonian bus operator Lux Express launches new Riga Airport express route

Ahead of the summer travel season, Estonian bus operator Lux Express has introduced additional buses on its routes from Tallinn to Riga and Vilnius and opened a new express line within Riga on Wednesday to enable Estonian bus travelers to conveniently commute between the city center and airport.

“Since our bus from Tallinn either continues to Vilnius or returns to Estonia, we decided to address this gap with fast Iveco transfer buses that can carry up to 24 passengers and make 15 trips in both directions each day,” Ingmar Roos, member of Lux Express’ management board, said. “We want our travelers arriving from Tallinn and Parnu to avoid inconvenience and travel quickly, comfortably, and affordably between Riga Airport and the bus station.”

The new bus line has eight stops, and a regular ticket for the express bus can be purchased from the Lux Express website for eight euros, with a discounted price of six euros for youths and children under 16. Tickets can be exchanged throughout the day, ensuring travelers can board even if their flights are canceled or schedules change. Tickets from Estonia, whether from Tallinn or Parnu, can also be purchased directly to Riga Airport, making transfers in Riga more convenient and economical.

“I commend Lux Express and Riga Airport for their successful cooperation. The new express line significantly improves the quality of service and accessibility for airport passengers, leaving a positive impression of Latvia. The Ministry of Transport will continue to support similar cooperation models where private carriers offer our citizens and tourists high-quality services at affordable prices,” Latvian Minister of Transport Kaspars Briskens said, noting that compared to other international airports, the new express line ticket price is on average cheaper by two euros.

Lux Express has also established a direct connection with Riga Airport for travelers from Tartu and southern Estonia, with two buses running daily in both directions.

Between Tallinn and Riga, Lux Express operates 13 daily trips each way. This summer, new departures are introduced from Tallinn at 6 a.m. and from Riga at 7:30 p.m. The latter is the latest departure from Riga to Tallinn, arriving at its destination just before midnight.

Lux Express has also rolled out four direct trips to Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, and three direct trips to Warsaw, the capital of Poland, each day.

“We have done almost everything we can to promote sustainable and comfortable tourism with our buses between Estonia and neighboring countries, and it’s commendable that travelers have already discovered the opportunities offered by this international route network,” Roos said.
