Gas price drops 3 pct in Lithuania in July m/m, goes up 10 pct y/y

The average market gas price in Lithuania dropped 3 percent to 38.69 euros per MWh in July, from June, but rose 10 percent year-on-year, the GET Baltic gas exchange said on Tuesday.

“For the first time since March this year, the gas price on the GET Baltic exchange changed its trajectory and moved downwards,” the gas exchange said.

On the GET Baltic natural gas exchange operating in the Baltic states and Finland, the average price of gas was 37.84 euros per MWh in July, a drop of 5 percent from June and a 3 percent increase from July 2023, when the average gas price in the region was 36.81 euros MWh.

The gas price went down by 5 percent to 37.30 euros per MWh in the Latvian-Estonian common market area, and it dropped 7 percent to 36.95 euros per MWh in the Finnish market area.

In July, 2,363 transactions were concluded on the GET Baltic exchange, resulting in 500 GWh of natural gas traded. Most of the gas in July was purchased in the Lithuanian market area – 204 GWh (40 percent of the total), followed by the Latvian-Estonian common market area with 175 GWh (35 percent) and the Finnish market area with 120 GWh (24 percent).
