There are signals to suggest that John Tully, a co-owner and board chairman of the MikroTik computer network equipment manufacturer, might be interested in investing in the Latvian telecommunications companies Tet and Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT). This was reported on Wednesday by Maris Vainovskis, a board member of the Council of Foreign Investors in Latvia and a senior partner at the Eversheds-Sutherland law firm, in an interview with the TV3 television channel.
“There are signs of his potential interest,” Vainovskis said, adding that he could not confirm whether that was true.
The expert said that Tet and LMT will probably attract “a lot of investor crowding, and that is where you have to pick the best of the best.”
Latvia’s Cabinet of Ministers met on November 19 to discuss its position on negotiations about the future of Tet and LMT, but it did not come to a final decision. The Economics Ministry was instructed to come up with clearer intentions during the next three weeks.
The government meeting was behind closed doors, with ministers considering more than 30 different options on what to do with LMT and Tet in future.
