Opportunities of Japanese market showcased to businesses at Estonian Foreign Ministry

The opportunities offered by and the specifity of the Japanese market were presented to business leaders at the Foreign Ministry in Tallinn, and a presentation was held of a new book on Estonian-Japanese relations from the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century.

The Japan-themed day at the Foreign Ministry started with a presentation for Estonian entrepreneurs on the opportunities offered by the Japanese market and strategies for market entry. Opening the discussion, Foreign Minister Margus Tsahkna said that Estonia and Japan have an excellent relationship and trade is one of the most important pillars of this relationship.

The minister said that during his visit to Japan in March this year, he was able to confirm that Estonia and Japan share the same geopolitical values and that the two countries have a mutual interest in even closer business relations.

Japan is one of Estonia’s most important trading partners in Asia and cooperation between the countries is close in the development of e-governance and digital services, as well as in the field of culture.

The discussion on the development of Estonia-Japan business relations was followed by a discussion session focusing on the security policy environment of Estonia and Japan. Ene Selart, a researcher at the University of Tartu, then presented her new book in Estonian, titled “Estonian-Japanese relations from the 19th century to the beginning of the 21st century.”

At the presentation, Tsahkna noted that Estonia and Japan are connected by over 100 years of diplomatic relations.

“Ene Selart’s book is dedicated to our friendship that has lasted for more than a hundred years,” he said. “I am pleased that the relations between Estonia and Japan are close and strong, we are bound by shared values and a commitment to defending the rules-based international order.”
