Police hotline 110 was down this morning due to very large number of incoming calls following threat e-mails received by preschools

The State Police hotline 110 was down this morning due to a very large number of incoming calls following threat e-mails received by multiple schools and kindergartens in recent days, the police informed LETA.

The police reiterate that this incident is considered a low-level threat, no evacuations are necessary, and educational institutions can safely continue their work.

The State Police has sent recommendations to all pre-schools and individual schools on how to proceed in the current situation.

As reported, last night many Latvian pre-school educational institutions also received threat e-mails about possible security risks, however, the State Police urges continue working as usual, without taking any evacuation measures, State Police chief Armands Ruks said in an interview with the Latvian public television today.

He said that about 400 Latvian kindergartens had received the same threat e-mails as schools on Tuesday. In an interview with commercial TV3 television, Ruks added that some other schools and universities were also among the recipients. The police have already reacted and sent notifications to these educational institutions that these are considered low-level threats, so no evacuation is necessary.

Information available to the State Police indicates that the sender was the same yesterday and tonight, and that this criminal had been active also about a year ago, when several organizations had also received similar threat letters.
