Riga plans to cut tourist tax

Members of the Riga City Council Financial and Administration Affairs committee on Thursday endorsed the proposal to reduce the tax charged to hotels and  other tourist accommodation services providers in the capital city.

At present, tourist accommodation services providers are charged EUR 1 plus VAT per tourist night.

To ease the burden of the tourist tax and VAT on the city’s businesses, the local government plans to cut the tourist tax to EUR 0.89.

The final decision on the proposed tax cut has to be taken by Riga City Council.

As reported, the so-called tourist tax was introduced in Riga from January 1, 2023. All tourist accommodation establishments in the city are charged EUR 1 per tourist night, but no more than EUR 10 if the guest stays longer in the city.
