Smart-ID can be used to access e-addresses and other services in future

In order to make electronic communication and document circulation with the state and local government institutions even more convenient, e-address and many other services will be available also with Smart-ID solution, already known in Latvia, provided by SK ID Solutions, the Environment Protection and Regional Development Ministry informed LETA.

On May 18, 2023, the Defense Ministry’s Digital Security Monitoring Committee recognized Smart-ID as a qualified electronic identification service. Therefore, Smart-ID can also be used to access the official electronic address (e-address) mailbox on the Latvija.gov.lv portal.

The possibilities of using Smart-ID will also be extended to access other portals of state and local government institutions and services available there, where Smart-ID as a solution was previously available only to customers of certain banks.

Environment Protection and Regional Development Minister Inga Berzina (New Unity) emphasized that reliable and user-friendly identification in the digital environment is the first step towards a citizen-friendly accessibility and user experience of the country’s digital services. She is pleased that in addition to the state-provided eSignature mobile solution, users of smart devices can now also access state services with Smart-ID, which has proven to be a reliable, secure and widely used tool in society.

The ministry invites every Smart-ID user to create an e-address, so that in future all state and local government institutions can communicate with citizens only electronically.

From January 1, 2023, e-address is mandatory for legal entities.

As reported, SK ID Solutions’ international Smart-ID solution was presented in Tallinn in early 2017.

The Estonian branch of SK ID Solutions was registered in Latvia in 2019. The shareholders of SK ID Solutions are SEB Banka, Swedbank and Telia Eesti.
