Turnover of pharmaceutical wholesalers increased by 17.3% in the first nine months

The turnover of wholesale drug companies in Latvia in the first nine months of this year was EUR 540.79 million excluding value added tax, which is 17.3 percent more than in the corresponding period of 2022, according to the data of the State Agency of Medicines (ZVA).

The total turnover of wholesale distributors of medicines in Latvia in the third quarter of 2023 was EUR 189.43 million, which is 19.7 percent more than in the third quarter of 2022 and 6.7 percent more than in the second quarter of this year.

Outside of Latvia, in the third quarter of 2023, 27 drug wholesalers have sold 595 different types of medicines included in the Drug Register of Latvia, including 334 drugs on the government-funded list, for EUR 24.38 million, which is a rise of 25 percent compared to the previous quarter.

Drug manufacturers and their representatives declared price increases for 206 drugs in the third quarter of this year, while price reductions were declared for 85 drugs.

Data has been collected from 80 licensed drug wholesalers operating in Latvia.

In 2022, the turnover of drug wholesalers in Latvia in the first nine months was EUR 461.09 million.
